We are able to interpret smell once the odorant stimuli travels into the nostril and through the nasal cavity and into the olfactory bulb. The next part is how the brain works to interpret these signals because the stimuli is be sent to three separate parts of the brain. These are the brain’s frontal cortex which allows us to have a conscious perception of smells, the hippocampus which stores memory of recognised smells and the hypothalamus amygdala that associates certain smells with memories and emotions.
